Tropical J's began making hand held umbrellas and selling them at local craft fairs. Interest in their craftsmanship eventually led to the classic TJ's question, "can you do something like this?", and thus the trek to developing quality outdoor market umbrellas was born. When it comes to quality, nothing comes close to a TJ's umbrella. All the components are manufactured in our shop, hand sanded and then hand dipped 3 times with a heavy, UV protected marine polyurethane that has proven to endure the harsh climates of our hawaii.

Our umbrellas are opened manually, by pushing up on the runner, or by use of our specially designed pulley system, which is a must have when opening umbrellas that can reach up to a 16' diameter. All Tropical J's installed pulleys are by Harken, supplier to the U.S. entry in the America's cup. Tropical J's umbrellas are made of red oak and incorporate a one piece solid oak pole. They come in sizes and configurations ranging from 6 - 16 feet.

Special configurations are possible as we can custom design an umbrella to fit almost anywhere. We recently designed a series of 4 umbrellas that matched the shape of an outdoor patio and that connected to each other with velcro gutters, creating an canopy like structure in an area where an awning permit was denied. We are a shade solution business so if you think it might be possible, just ask. The standard base fabric for our umbrellas is a Sunbrella Awning/Marine grade 5 year manufacturers limited warranty, and it comes in a wonderful assortment of styles and colors. If you are serious about having a long lasting umbrella product with on island service available, there is no other choice besides Tropical J's.

These umbrellas were specifically designed by Tropical J�s, Inc. to be used on the wind swept slopes of Molokai for Molokai Ranch and have become a real favorite of restaurants and condominiums where moderate size (8-11ft) is required in predominantly windy areas and where budget precludes going to the heavier Ali�i series.
